Exercise Stress Echo
This test involves stressing the heart with exercise (treadmill or bike) while monitoring the hearts electrical activity, heart rate and blood pressure in a controlled environment with a doctor and cardiac sonographer present . In addition an ultrasound of your heart is performed to assess the pumping function of the heart during exercise and at rest. The test is used to investigate for possible blockages of coronary (heart) arteries and to assess for exercise capacity and the hearts response to exercise.
You will need to wear clothing items suitable to perform exercise.
Duration : 45 minutes
Fasting : not required
Medications: Please advise at the time of your booking if you are taking any beta-blockers (metoprolol, atenolol, bisoprolol, carvedilol or nebivolol) or calcium-channel blockers (verapamil or diltiazem). In most cases, your doctor will request that these medications be withheld for 48 hours prior to the test. You should be advised of this when you confirm your booking.
