Holter Monitor

A Holter monitor involves monitoring the electrical activity of the heart over a 24hr period. The test is used to identify any abnormally slow or fast heart rhythms such as heart block or atrial fibrillation.

The test involves being  fitted with a small monitoring device (5cm x 5cm) that is attached by several leads to the skin on your chest. It stays attached for 24hrs and is then removed.

Duration : 15 minutes to be fitted with the device, monitoring device left on for 24hrs

Fasting : not required

Event Monitor

An Event Monitor is similar to a Holter monitor, however can be used for a prolonged period (7 days) to increase the likelihood of identifying the cause of less frequent heart rhythm disturbances.

Duration : 15 minutes to be fitted with the device, monitoring device left on for 7 days.

Fasting : not required
