Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. It is used to assess your hearts pumping function and valve function. The test involves a sonographer placing an ultrasound probe on your chest to get images of your hearts function. Occasionally an intravenous cannula may be required to allow administration of a contrast agent, however this will be discussed with you by the doctor if required. An echocardiogram is a very useful test frequently ordered and can diagnose many heart conditions including heart failure and valve disorders.
